Exquisite large (diameter 38 cm) lacquer plate with maki-e. The extraordinary use of takamaki-e (abundantly raised maki-e) portrays the crane in flight and outlines the tree , making ta perfectly beautiful overall effect. Flawless, No chips, peeling lacquer, or other blemishes. Condition is better than expected for its age. It has been well-handled. Museum quality. Taishō period (1912-1926), may well be Meiji.
